Plate Kote™

Plate Kote™

Paper goods manufacturers rely on Michelman’s special line of Plate Kote™ overprint varnishes for the oil/water resistance their plates and bowls need. Because Plate Kote™ is coated on the paper stock before the shapes are punched out, easy release from forming dies is also important.

SofTak®

SofTak®

Softak® is an easy-to-apply water-based, functional coating that increases the angle of skid of paper to 30-45 degrees. By preventing slippage, it enhances the transport efficiency of palletized loads, boxes and furniture.

Nomar®

Nomar®

Abrasion-resistant Nomar™ coatings eliminate the common abrasion that occurs between the inside of the shipping container and the packaged item.

The need for abrasion resistance has increased dramatically as recycled fibers have replaced softer virgin kraft. Painted products are particularly more prone to abrasion today because they are often packed before the finish is fully cured. Nomar™ enables packing before the paint reaches full hardness without the risk of scuffing.

DigiPrime® 1500LA

DigiPrime® 1500LA

DigiPrime®1500LA is a product that can be added to size press treatments or pigment coatings to optimize substrates for HP Indigo printability. This product provides excellent adhesion of HP Indigo Electroinks® to paper. Its low pH allows incorporation into a wide range of formulations.

Application methods

Coatings can be applied in and off-line.
It is important to achieve an unbroken surface film and have sufficient drying capacity available. A typical coating has a dry content of 40-50% like a standart flexo color, so the dying is similar to flexo printing.

Typical methods are offline with rod/blade coater or preprint flexo.

A double coat with a are developed to work in high temerature e.g. to go through a corrugator.  primer and a top coat applied with two coaters or two flexo units is a very good application method and hereby you can obtain the very best MWTR – Cobb – KIT values.

In a paper mill, it is typical to use film, size press and/or blade/rod coater.

Coatings can also be applied sheet to sheet in a standard flexo printer and/or the flexo unit in an offset press (not offset applied).

Most of our coatings are developed to work in high temperature e.g. to go through a corrugator.

We can advise you on equipment and also supply blade and rod coaters for different sizes and speeds.
